Let's talk

Clear Quotes From the Beginning

Before work begins, we'll discuss your project, the proposed materials, the scope of work and the anticipated costs.

Our written quotes and contracts will clearly outline the agreed work, pricing, payment arrangements and any relevant conditions.

Where applicable, GST and other required costs will be included in the total price so you know what you're agreeing to.

If unexpected issues arise or changes are requested, we'll discuss the implications with you and document any agreed variations before additional work proceeds.

Initial Deposit — Up to 10%

A deposit of no more than 10% of the total contract price may be requested to confirm the project and assist with the initial planning and procurement process.

This deposit is included in the overall project cost, not an additional charge.

Where Home Building Compensation insurance is required, the relevant certificate will be provided before any deposit or other payment is requested.

Three Progress Payments — As Work Is Being Completed

Final Payment — Project Completion

The final payment will be linked to the agreed completion stage and will be invoiced in accordance with the contract.

Our aim is to ensure the finished work reflects the agreed scope, quality and craftsmanship.

Why Are Deposits and Progress Payments Necessary?

Quality carpentry involves more than the time spent physically building.

Projects require preparation, material selection, ordering, scheduling, equipment, transport and professional business management.

Progress payments help manage these costs throughout a project while ensuring clients are paying according to a clearly agreed schedule.

We believe payment arrangements should be fair, transparent and understood by both parties before work begins.

Licensing, Insurance & Professional Responsibilities

Choosing a qualified carpenter is an important part of protecting your home and investment.

Drew Thomas is a fully qualified carpenter based in Newcastle, NSW.

Where required, projects will be undertaken with the appropriate licensing, contractual documentation and insurance arrangements.

For residential building work requiring Home Building Compensation cover under NSW law, the relevant insurance certificate will be supplied before any payment is accepted or work begins.

We believe customers should feel comfortable asking about qualifications, licensing, applicable insurance and their rights before committing to a project.

GST & Invoicing

Transparency extends to how projects are quoted and invoiced.

Where GST applies, our customer quotes will clearly show the total price including GST.

Invoices will identify the work being charged for, the amount payable and relevant payment information.

Our aim is to ensure clients understand the financial arrangements from the outset.

Changes to the Original Quote

Sometimes a client decides to add something special, change materials or extend the original scope of work.

Occasionally, previously hidden issues may also become apparent once work begins.

Where a variation is required, we'll discuss the proposed changes, associated costs and any impact on timing before proceeding, and record the agreement in writing.

We believe clear communication avoids misunderstandings and helps projects run smoothly.

A Professional Approach From Start to Finish

Our commitment is simple:

  • Clear, documented quotations and payment arrangements

  • Honest communication about costs and materials

  • Agreed and properly documented project variations

  • Appropriate licensing and insurance where required

  • Professional invoicing and transparent pricing

  • Quality workmanship and respect for your home

At Drew Thomas Carpentry, we want clients to feel comfortable and informed at every stage.

Good Craftsmanship Builds More Than Beautiful Spaces. It Builds Trust.

Depending on the size and nature of the project, the remaining balance may be divided into three agreed progress payments.

Payment stages will be outlined in the written contract and linked to specified stages of completed work or the value of work and materials supplied, as required by NSW law.

This arrangement helps clients understand when payments are due while supporting the orderly progression of the project.
